Opening Times

The museum is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Normal opening hours are 10am – 5pm. Last admission is at 4.30pm.

A tour of the permanent galleries will take approximately 2 hours.

Visitor Services

There is full disabled access, including lifts and specially adapted toilets. The Museum shop offers a wide range of related books, CDs and gift items, including a large selection of arts and crafts from throughout the Commonwealth.

The Museum cafe is open during normal museum opening hours for light refreshments.

School Groups

A school group is ten or more persons

Each pupil in a school party: £2.75

One free accompanying teacher per five pupils.

Travel Trade

Commission and account facilities are available for coach and tour operators, and we offer free familiarization visits upon request to members of the travel trade.

Upon arrival, there is free entry for a driver and recognized courier or guide when accompanying a group.

We can supply leaflets and other promotionals on request, along with assistance with themed city-wide itineraries and special deals on accommodation, other attractions, restaurants and sightseeing tours.

How to find us

By public transport
The museum is located in the historic railway terminus building of the Great Western Railway building which is right next to Temple Meads, Bristol's present main railway station. It is served by the City's principal public transport services, including rail, bus (8 & 9), park and ride, river ferry and airport shuttle.

By car
Car users should leave the M4 at junction 19, taking the M32 to the city centre and Temple Meads station. Take junction 19 for Bristol city centre if travelling north on the M5 or junction 18 if travelling south.
Limited pay and display parking is available at the rear of the Museum.

By private coach
Coaches may set down and pick up directly outside. Coach parks are located just a few minutes away at Stratton Street, just off the M32 as it reaches the city centre and off Anchor Road in Bristol Harbourside, Canons Marsh

Access

The Museum offers full access to people using wheelchairs. There are lifts and specially adapted toilets.
Amongst other facilities available during your visit are free hire of wheelchairs and magnifying glasses.

There is a dedicated space for Blue Badge holders, free of charge, on a first come first served basis. Blue Badge holders may also park free of charge in any of the available pay and display spaces.


Please note, although no stairs or steps need to be used during the journey from the car park to the Museum entrance, it is a distance of approximately 100 metres from the rear to the front of the Museum.

Museum staff will be happy to advise the best way to visit and enjoy all the facilities available during your visit.
