Welcome to our family-friendly Museum.

The sixteen award-winning galleries of the Museum have been created with children firmly in mind. There are numerous hands-on and interactive exhibits. You can sample exotic spices, learn morse code, dress up in period clothes and play computer games. More...

Breaking the Chains - the fight to end Slavery is a major exhibition telling the story of the slave trade and the campaign of ordinary men and women, both black and white, to end the trade in human beings.

Families are encouraged to use a variety of interactive exhibits designed to help children engage with the themes of 'Breaking the Chains'. Hear West African instruments come to life with a unique touchscreeen music station and play hands-on puzzles to understand the symbolism and spirituality of West African culture.

All families visiting Breaking the Chains will receive a FREE Family Activities booklet to guide younger visitors around the six galleries.
