Please note the Museum is now closed.

Following a rigorous review over the past six months around the viability of moving the Museum and collections to London, due to major changes in economic circumstances the proposed move is no longer a viable option and will not be progressed.

The collections of the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum will be transferred by Deed of Gift to the Bristol Museums, Galleries and Archives Service.

Plans for Brunel’s Old Station building, the former site of the BECM, could also see part of the building return to its original design purpose – a platform extension to support Network Rail’s ambitions for a fast mainline link from Bristol to London.

The office and conference facilities, which comprise The Passenger Shed and Brunel’s Boardroom, will continue to support the growth of creative industries within the area.
